Sun help Al Batha Group lower TCO and boost system availability

IT infrastructure overhaul allows leading business group to improve services and achieve higher returns

Dubai, UAE:

Optimising existing IT resources and gaining competitive business advantage on a limited budget are challenges that most organisations face globally. Addressing these issues on a regional level, Sun Microsystems, today announced that it has successfully completed an implementation of its Sun N1 Advanced Architecture for the Al Batha Group.

One of the largest private business groups in the UAE, Al Batha Group consists of more than 20 autonomous companies operating in varied sectors ranging from automobiles, pharmaceuticals, contracting, manufacturing, electronics, FMCG, real estate, education and trading.

Being a diversified company, Al Batha needed a secure service that would consolidate their existing IT infrastructure that ran on SAP solutions, in addition to reducing the complexity and cost of maintaining and administering production on SAP systems. The N1 Advanced Architecture for SAP Solutions provides a methodology and suite of tools to help organisations build and transform their data center into a flexible, centrally managed, and more automated environment that can adapt to rapidly changing business demands. “Operating in a heterogeneous business environment, we wanted a flexible option that would help us maximise and simplify our SAP solution landscape to achieve greater business agility, better utilise our hardware resources and improve service levels,” said Saji Oomen, IT General Manager, Al Batha Group. Through Sun’s N1 Advanced Architecture solutions, Al Batha Group will now be able to optimise its current IT environment and make changes to the SAP infrastructure quickly, easily, and with minimal risk to production systems. “As one of the fast expanding companies in the UAE, Al Batha was faced with a challenge to simplify and bring down cost of running their production on SAP systems. They also wanted a system in place that would allow employees, customers and partners to access information remotely in an easy, flexible and secure fashion,” said Antonio Briguglio, ERP Practice Manager at Sun Microsystems.

“Our team studied the requirements and technical issues the company faced on a day-to-day basis and recommended N1 Advanced Architecture which not only is cost-effective and highly secure, but also offers flexible options with minimum risk to upgrade to a new SAP solution environment, if needed, in the future,” added Hani Esber, territory sales manager- Gulf, Sun Microsystems. “The entire deployment was completed in a span of three months and has helped us achieve greater performance from our IT infrastructure especially during peak hours. In addition to bringing down our total cost of operation, there has also been a marked increase in the utilisation and availability of our existing servers and storage systems. We are very pleased with the results achieved,” added Oomen. Headquartered in Sharjah, the Al Batha Group has been using SAP applications for all its businesses since 1999.
